We’re listening to: The Sorry Kisses – Kelly’s Got Standards

by

the sorry kisses Were listening to: The Sorry Kisses Kellys Got StandardsA perfectly crafted pop-rock song from an equally perfectly crafted band.  The Sorry Kisses were started by Hayley Hutchinson (Vocals/Guitar) and Sam Forrest of Nine Black Alps (Vocals/Bass/Guitar). The band have had many line up changes/guest appearances since they began back in 2006.

This track has it all, harmonies, key changes and a few ooh ooh ooh’s thrown in for good measure.

Distorted guitars start it off and you think it’s going to burst into The Undertones – Teenage Kicks, which gives the song it’s initial punk feel, you soon realise its going in a different direction.  A playful  verse leads to a beautiful bridge that only adds to the playfulness. The lyrics “because knowing you and knowing me and everything that could have been is nothing more than a dream” almost sucks you into thinking that this is more than a two and a half minute rant, before the chorus brings you to your senses - so catchy that you’ll be singing it in your sleep.

Their sound differs from one track to the next; some are folky wistful numbers and others straight up rock ‘n’ roll. It’s hardly surprising when you consider the extensive back catalogue that the combined artists have.
